Escape Into Books: My journey from book lover to author

The journey from avid reader to author has been a challenging one, but I wouldn't give it up. If you are like me, reading allows you to escape a demanding work load, the kids, and the daily stresses of life. You get to meet people you feel like you've known forever, that live down the street from you, those you wish you could meet, and some you never imagined existed. The characters become reality. I personally have read about characters I secretly dated, hated, envied, pitied and so on.
So this website is dedicated to those of us who long for the characters after you finish that last page. You know the lonely feeling after you finished a novel that is only cured by the next page turner. Although I have a wealth of characters in my head from books read, dreams that have me up at 3 a.m. taking notes, and books I am currently working on, I am by no means an expert. But I have learned a few things along the way and I continue to be reminded of just how much I have yet to learn.
As a teen I struggled with self-esteem issues, domestic abuse and depression. An unplanned pregnancy shocked and saved me. It led me to find my faith and I went to college to become a dental assistant. My daughter was healthy, I was working as a surgical assistant for an oral surgeon, life was great. Then things changed.
Unexpected health problems forced me out of my job and back into my depression. My pride was shaken and I felt lost. Life stripped me of the things I thought were important and left me to appreciate the blessings in my life. I wasn't able to work as a surgical assistant anymore but it allowed me to follow my true passion. I revisited a story I started one boring day while at my work-study job. That story turned into the novel Thicker Than Blood.
Self-publishing has been a dream and a nightmare. I love writing but learning the ins and outs of the business has taken time. With the advice from great authors and support from my family (especially my mother, hey mommy) I am able to pursue my writing career and be a full-time mom! The experiences have been great and I'm working on the sequel to Thicker Than Blood and other upcoming projects full of romance, suspense and more.
My goal is to keep you up-to-date with my upcoming projects, review the current novels that have me enthralled, and share the things I'm learning about the writing industry along the way. I'm taking you on this journey with me, the good the bad and the crazy.
