Bella Evans Poem

I was taught kind words and to keep silent when provoked

But I will not let you tear me down when I have words of my own

See, I won't call you 'ratchet,' 'tired,' and other four letter words

My education has given me a better vocabulary to give you what you deserve

I was taught class, to stand up straight, and to turn the other cheek

But I can move you in other ways that will sweep you off your feet

I don't have to 'throw down,' 'turn up,' and get in your face.

Because my eyes and heart are looking above, I'm ahead in this race

I am strong, beautiful, proud as I was created to be

So if you think I'm not ready to handle you, trust me I can be
